INTOS extends Tier 2 on the SCL and aims for Tier 3 by 2025

Working safely is essential in any industry, and safety requirements are becoming increasingly stringent. At INTOS, where our work includes laboratory design, we attach great importance to a safe and healthy working environment. That is why we are proud to announce that INTOS is on Step 2 of the Safety Culture Ladder (SCL). But we are looking further: our ambition is to reach Step 3 by 2025, and that is what we are going to fully focus on.

What is the Safety Culture Ladder (SCL)?

The Safety Culture Ladder, also known as the safety ladder, is a tool developed by the NEN to understand and improve the safety culture within organisations. As the NEN itself states, "This insight ensures that the number of unsafe and unhealthy situations can be reduced." Achieving Step 2 on the ladder is an important milestone for us and a confirmation of our ongoing commitment to a safe working environment.

Safety as a priority

At INTOS, we see safety, like quality, health and environment, as one of the pillars of our business operations. This is not only enshrined in our company policy, but is also reflected in day-to-day practice. We invest in various ways in ensuring safe working practices within our organisation. But how exactly do we do that?

Internal safety coordinator

We employ a full-time in-house safety coordinator who is fully dedicated to the preventive policies around safety and environmental care, both in our workshop and on projects. According to Roy Levinson, our KAM coordinator: "My role is a luxury position within the interior construction industry. At many companies, this position is often combined with other responsibilities, such as that of project manager. But given INTOS' size and diversity of projects, a dedicated role is necessary to ensure safety. Quality and safety go hand in hand."

VCA certification

We are VCA** certified and, as a main contractor, only work with subcontractors who are also VCA certified. This underlines our commitment to safety at all levels of our projects.

Regular inspections

We conduct regular workplace inspections, such as Last Minute Risk Assessments (LMRA) and Task Risk Assessments (TRA). These analyses raise the safety awareness of our employees directly on the shop floor.

Toolbox meetings and certified equipment

We frequently organise both internal and external toolbox meetings and only work with certified tools. This ensures that our employees are always well informed and equipped.

Structural focus on safety in consultations

Safety is a standing agenda item in all our consultations. This is necessary because safety often competes with the time constraints of projects. By putting safety structurally on the agenda, we ensure that it always gets the attention it deserves.

Safety and health plan (H&S) for projects

For projects to which this applies, we work with a comprehensive Health and Safety Plan (H&S Plan). This plan ensures that safety requirements are clear and complied with during the execution of our projects.

Our Ambition: Tier 3 by 2025

While we are proud to have achieved Tier 2, our focus is now on the next step: Tier 3. This level requires a proactive and widely supported safety culture, in which safety is a shared responsibility throughout the organisation. We will work intensively in the coming period to further strengthen our safety culture and ensure that safety not only remains a top priority, but is even more integrated into all our processes.

As Roy Levinson points out, "The recognition from the Safety Culture Ladder motivates us to continuously improve our safety culture. We want to keep improving safety within INTOS and continue to make strides in this regard."

With this recognition and our ambitious goals, we show that we at INTOS take safety seriously and that we continue to strive for an ever safer working environment for all our employees. By 2025, we want to reach Tier 3, and this is a goal we are fully committed to.
