The reason for renewal

The upgrade of the adjacent OneWorld Lounge provided the ideal opportunity to also give the Aspire Lounge a complete transformation. The desire to move the kitchen to a central location, where it would strengthen the connection between the two lounges, led to an extensive renovation of the 570 sq m Aspire Lounge. This renovation was not only an opportunity to modernise the space, but also to give an updated look to a major hub for international travellers.

INTOS' approach

Under the direction of Phil Rijkhoff, INTOS undertook a major overhaul of the Aspire Lounge, following D/DOCK's design. The existing space was completely gutted and rebuilt, with INTOS handling every aspect of construction as general contractor. From new installations such as electricity and water supply to fire safety, evacuation systems and sprinklers-everything was carefully integrated. The interior received a complete makeover, incorporating both new and reused furniture.

Phil Rijkhoff, who oversaw both the Aspire and OneWorld Lounge, stresses the importance of sustainability in this project: "In the Aspire Lounge, for example, we refurbished an existing table and incorporated it into new bar furniture."

The two lounges now share a new, 61 sq m large kitchen, while remaining separate. The joint entrance provides a smooth transition between the two spaces.

The result
The renovated Aspire Lounge was recently completed and festively opened together with the OneWorld Lounge. INTOS, a trusted partner of Schiphol for over 30 years, has once again proven our ability to translate the architect's vision into a high-quality end result.
